A number of customers have notified us that they have recently received an Email claiming that their domain registration has been "suspended" and they should click a link to download a copy of the complaints that have been received. These Emails have faked headers claiming to be from a domain registrar (wholesaler). 4UHosting is not mentioned in the message.

If you receive one of these Emails, please delete it immediately and do not click any of the links in the message. If you have already received such a message and think you may have clicked on a link within it, be sure to perform a full deep scan of your computer with a good anti virus / malware application.

If you have a domain registered with us, you may receive communication from certain third parties concerning your registration from time to time. This happens because of the data compliance responsibilities of the various organisations involved in the registration process.

In this case, the Email is faked and is designed to take you to a link that will either try to scam you  - or download a virus / trojan to your computer.

The content of the message may vary, but the one that has been reported to us is as follows (we've removed identifying info)...

Dear Sir/Madam,
The following domain names have been suspended for violation of the NAME REMOVED. Abuse Policy:
Registrant Name: NAME REMOVED
Multiple warnings were sent by NAME REMOVED. Spam and Abuse Department to give you an opportunity to address the complaints we have received.
We did not receive a reply from you to these email warnings so we then attempted to contact you via telephone.
We had no choice but to suspend your domain name when you did not respond to our attempts to contact you.
Click here and download a copy of complaints we have received.
Please contact us for additional information regarding this notification.

It appears that a fraudster / spammer has obtained the registrant details of a large number of domains from the public "whois" database. For ICANN registered domains, such as .com .net .org .info and the many new gtld's available - entry into the public whois database is mandatory, so you should be aware that under normal circumstances, the contact Email address of your domain is available to the public. This is where these scammers get your details. We offer an ID protection service which costs £2.50 +VAT per year and this will hide your details from the whois database, but still comply with the registration rules.

If you would like to protect your domain, you can do so from within your customer account by clicking "My Domains" > "Manage My Domains" and then managing the domain you want to add ID protection for. The ID protection option is in the "Addons" tab on the domain management page.

Please contact us if you are unsure about the content of any message you receive concerning your domain name.

Kind Regards,

The 4UH support team.
