SMTP Authentication

When sending mail through our system you must authenticate with the server using your Email account's username and password.

Sending mail and retrieving it are two seperate processes, so you would normally enter your login details for retrieving mail and choose the option in your email software to also authenticate to send mail. Often this is simply a box to tick, although with some software you must enter your details for both incoming and outgoing.

Most email software has the option "SMTP Authentication" and this must be enabled. You can use the same login details as you do for receiving mail - i.e your full Email address and your Email account password.

Note: Until recently, we had been using a system called "antirelayd" that allowed you to send mail without authenticating if you had successfully logged in to retrieve mail within the last 30 minutes. This poses a security risk and so has now been removed on most of our servers. If you are suddenly not able to send mail and you didn't change your settings, then it is likely that we have removed antirelayd from your server and you have incorrectly configured your Email client not to authenticate when sending.
